Yay for Best Coast and Best Fish!!

Great Craft Fairs this weekend-- the Best Fish were certainly the Best! And the Best Coast went very well, with last-hour-shoppers topping up the weekend for the whole works of us. Thank you Corner Brook and beyond, what a wonderful weekend!

I was so busy setting up and helping others get set up I didn't have time to take photos... it's all happening too fast, and if you don't get to Marble Mountian for the Best Coast and Best Fish! Christmas Craft Fairs this weekend, it will all be over and you will be sad. Forever. 31 Booths, the biggest fair in Corner Brook area yet!

WOW!! THANK YOU ST. JOHN'S!!

Great Christmas Craft Fair in St. John's, and really awesome neighbours during the fair, I'm so happy I was there. Thanks to all who came by my booth and had a chat, talked about my work, and even bought a few things-- means a lot to me, and makes a world of difference to know that people are such staunch supporters of our local artists and crafts persons, and that talent and skill are so well recognised at this fair.
Tired out, but happy that my drive back was easy in terms of weather, even though I arrived home to snow on the hills. The Rubber duck is a great little truck!
Now... to get set for Best Fish and Best Coast Christmas Craft Fairs this weekend... see you there!!

On the Road Again...!

Emptied the kilns this morning, finished packing the truck, tied down the tarp, and we're off to the Big City singing Duck of the Road!

So Little Time Left...!

Well, winding down this evening, and tomorrow is my last full day to sort it all out before the big road trip to Sin City and the Craft Council Christmas Craft Fair at the Arts & Culture Centre... I spent this past hour  rearranging my jars of frit because I got tired of threading ribbon through the glass ornaments... and am getting past the eyeballs with the mess in the house and studio.
This morning I realised I had really run out of room to work when I started putting frit jars on the floor, glass on the floor and then moving my in-progress-just-prior-to-first-firing projects on the floor to make room for the in-progress pieces coming out of the kiln. I'm a horizontal filer, it's genetic, and that system takes up a tremendous amount of space especially when shelving is limited... not to mention the mountains of glass that I haven't had a chance to really deal with since the summer. Well, I guess I could have done something about it, but I probably used those several hours to go paddling instead... did I mention the weather has been absolutely beautiful out there these past 5 days or so??? I see it from the window, and I'm focusing ahead on December-- all that good cheer and time to relax, right!?
SEE YOU AT THE CRAFT FAIR-- ST. JOHN'S OR STEADY BROOK (MARBLE MOUNTAIN NOV. 26-28).!

Three More Days...

I have only three more days until I leave for the Christmas Craft Fair in St. John's. I am going to be at the Arts and Culture Centre for this fair Nov. 18-21, and hope to do as well as everyone is doing this weekend. I heard that it is a beautiful show with very high-end craftsmanship, and am looking forward to being part of that in a few short days. Set-up for me will be Wednesday, and the fair will open up on Thursday, so come on in a say hello, and see what our local artisans have to offer for the Christmas season!
Things are piling up in the studio-- finally!! It seems that there is so much time involved before I actually get to see results (and sometimes the results are not what I had in mind, setbacks do occur...)
I have finished a few pieces with the new technique that I just learned... these pieces take up to 5 firings each, making it a long process, and use up a lot of my kiln space and time, putting a bit of pressure on to get enough other work ready for the shows.
 Chickadees...
 ...Cardinals and Blue Jays...
...new little set of Reindeer Bowls and plates...

... my herd of caribous is slowly growing, and I would love to keep them all!
Just to top things off, I am adding a few poinsettias to the bunch, along with platters, plates, bowls and panels. Come on out to the Craft Fair in St. John's at the Arts and Culture Centre this weekend and Nov. 18-21. In Corner Brook, the Best Coast Christmas Craft Fair and Best Fish! (for emerging artists) will be held at Marble Mountain Nov. 26-28. Hope to see you there!

Salmon Run... All the Way Home

This past week, I took a day off work to go out to Gros Morne to take down and pack up Salmon Run... kind of sad to see it all go into boxes, the Discovery Centre was a beautiful venue for this installation, and I can't think of a nicer place to see it. On a more positive note, though, both Mike and Elaine Beverley were able to accompany us on the trip-- Mike helped me with all the blacksmithing required to build the stands for the glass river of fish; I was happy that they got the chance to see this work in such a beautiful spot in person, not to mention having a very enjoyable day together!
 Elaine, checking out the fish...
...one male, getting packed up...

Elaine, myself, and Mike in front of the river, the fish, the osprey, and the panels...
My eldest brother Tonu and Mike, doing a bit of creative tying... on this sunny day...
...last piece of glass river and fish to get taken apart...
Tonu enjoying the white bits of sunshine floating down to the truck... nice day all around!

Bonfire Night!

Friday was Bonfire Night around here... so Team Hurve (Hin, Bean, me) trekked down the hill in the pitch black, overdressed (it was balmy out, with a HOT wind), to the bonfire site on the beach... of course, it was too windy, and the event was postponed. So yesterday evening we had our own bonfire by Hiin's shed (yes, we each have our own shed... but Hiin steals mine all the time anyways, so I'm not sure why there is this distinction).
Hiiner, trying to break the camera.
Can't see the Bean, it's too dark. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Hiin says I photoshopped him out because he was bugging me).

Best Fish! and Best Coast Christmas Craft Fairs

I am organising the Best Fish! Christmas Craft Fair for emerging artists and craftspersons... anyone who is NOT a juried member of the Craft Council of NL and who makes their work by hand here in the province can participate. Best Fish! will be held in conjunction with the Best Coast Christmas Craft Fair at beautiful Marble Mountain Lodge, November 26-28... so tell all your friends, tell the whole bunch, come support your local artisans and get ready for the Christmas season in style!
There is still room for more participants, spread the word, get in touch with moi, let's make this a great event!

Caribou for Christmas and Otherwise

Yep, I'm getting started... making caribou and taking orders!
This year, I am going crazy with the colours... but they're not ready yet, so can't show you... can't wait, I love my caribou!
