Lori Came to Visit, and We Got Out on the Hice!

Here's Lori, March 28 on the Bay, with a galleon approaching us from the far horizon, bringing trade goods from the West Indies...

...Here we are, the winter snowbunnies... wishing we were on a sandy sunny tropical beach... but having a great time here anyway!

Note the galleon in the background-- turns out it was just a paperboat crashing through the icebreaker's path on its way to the mill to pick up paper and stuff...

A Bird in Hand...

Hiin was feeding the birds, and wondering at their trust and delicacy...

Nuthatch at the table...

...pine siskin dining later...

Another sunset in March... frozen hice all the way across the bay, lights on in Benoit's Cove, working late at Allen's Fish Market...

Mid-March, and The Deep Freeze Ain't Over Yet!!

' da Hurve' is snowed in again, and the ice is back in the bay...

Blow-me-Down mountains gleaming in the sun...

One of the earliest settlers in the Bay of Islands, resting on our shore in Gillams enjoyed a very brief thaw...

...but of course the thaws don't last all that long around here.. hice, hice, and more hice...

...at least our hearts are still warm!

February in Gillams

Hiin checking out 'da Hurve'... she's coming out of the snow, there's hope for spring yet!!

Sun setting over the hills...

Waiting for spring!

Essti Vabariigi Aastapeav-- Estonian National Independence Day

Memme (in her 60's) going for the gusto!

Hiin and the Moose, making it up the mountains!

Celebrating Estonian National Independence Day in Newfoundland! Each year, we snowshow to Barry's Lookout, fly the Newfoundland, Estonian, and Canadian flags, and sing the Estonian National Anthem. This year, I brought my Christmas present up the hill, and accompanied the singers with the sweet sounds of trumpeting. Apparently these notes floated down the hill and mesmerised other snowshoers in the area. Everyone got a taste of the Estonian life!
