Moved to Another Convenient Location

Soooo.... haven't been able to solve any problems with the images here, so I have moved my blog over to wordpress, www.astonesthrowglass.wordpress.com ... please keep following happenings at the Crow's Nest there!

No More Photos

For some reason, I can't upload images here anymore. Not even one. Where is the HELP button when one needs it I wonder... time to change to Wordpress so I can carry on?

WhasSUP?!

Not sure what's going on this morning, but for some reason, this blog-thing is not accepting photographs... I even went back and changed many to much smaller file sizes, but then it actually uploaded only these two, less than the first time around.
In anycase, this is all I have for today:
Hiiner had a birthday, and on his birthday he received a beautiful beautiful beautiful (did I mention beautiful??) Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP).

And much like one of the stories go, he too has become legendary, pretty much walking on water. Can we say STOKED?!

Summer Orchids

For the first time in 5 years, my orchid has bloomed...

... could be because of the light, the warmth, the humidity...

... whatever the reason, I am happy for the blossoms and the fragrance in the house.

West Coast comes to the Best Coast

We had very early visitors yesterday morning... right off the boat! Karen and her kids from BC dropped by for a quick hello-- although the last thing they expected on an rdf kind of a morning, we went for a creek hike just becuase we love it!

Although we didn't have enough water shoes to outfit the whole gang, Ian does have a lot of wool socks...

...more than enough...

... for  many mismatched sets of wool booties.

Sometimes, we got wetter than anticipated...

...but it was definitely worth it...

...

... my little Rabina went for a swim while Andi and Ben climbed the falls.

Beautiful!

And it really was THIS big.

Wet, but happy, we even got some of the first wild blueberries of the season and some of the last wild raspberries.
Wonderful start to the day!

Morning Moon

We've been enjoying just-after-full-moon moons these past few days, visible from the studio in the early morning light.
Soft lovely summer.

Little Escape

Last weekend, I escaped to the Gros Morne area for a sweet afternoon and overnight getaway.

Camping on a beautiful beach full of gorgeous stones worn smooth by wave action, I made a friend... who followed me down the quad trails and loved the tent spot.

Low tide yeilded cazillions of tide pools to inspect, and beautiful sunset later on.

Early the next morning, Western Brook Gorge beckoned...

... but what had me even more entranced...

...were the seven caribou slowly making their way across the bog.
 What a treat!
Today, I am escaping for another quick hadventure... I'll get back to you on how that goes!

Chatting and Cherrying

Record yields with the cherries this year, and after all the worry, no major competition from the birds.

The wonderful thing about my little cherry grove is that it is a great way to catch up on chats and have a good visit with friends.
This was my third group of migrant workers-- who, as you can CLEARLY see, sat down on the job the second my back was turned, right under the (long) noses of the turned-out-to-be-lazy-and-incompetent not to mention hairy supervisors-- and am expecting a few more later this week.

I soon righted the wrongs and cracked the cherrying whip and everyone went home with bowls and bags and containers full...

... even me...

... lovely way to spend a few hours in the day.
Now to freeze and 'process' them for later reminders of the beautiful summer.

Beware What Lurks Beneath the Sea

Once upon a time, a lone paddler headed out on the water on what appeared to be a beautiful and friendly sea...

... da-dum...

... perhaps a glance or two around the boat may have been warning enough...

... or a careful look on shore may have alerted the paddler to the evil that lurks within the eyes of the SHARK...

...da-dum...

..da-dum da-dum...

...carefree, the paddler is enjoying the morning, and admiring classically-styled neoprene shoes...I wonder if the matching colours make it all taste better...

... da-dum da-dum da-dum da-dum...

...ATTACK!!!

And the sated shark glides effortlessly away.

Grabbing at the Breeze

With the weather being so lovely, we've been trynig out the new-to-us windsurfing boards every chance we get... sometimes even joined by Peter and his family too!

Logan, floating...

...two brothers trying to get it going...

...Bobbi enjoying the show and wondering when someone will actually start sailing (!!)...

...

... and he's off...

... off the board, that is!
Good times in the sun. Hoping for another nice day of wind-- perhaps it will come up again this afternoon, we'll start whistling this morning in anycase.

Can You Smell Them?

The honeysuckles were off to a great start this spring...

... and now, they are spreading their scent all over the place!

With the breeze coming off the water this morning,

the house is full to bursting with this beautiful aroma.

Battling the Birds

We have an abundance of cherries this year...

...which are not yet quite ripe...

...and even though some of them look ALMOST ready, they are not. The birds, however, seem to feel that by using the same strategy they used with the strawberries (pick 'em while they're green, that way we get them ALL), they will be the winners again. I'm thinking about a herring net to cover the trees for next year, as the number of cherries left on the trees each day is rapidly diminishing. On the other hand, I really like hearing them around the house and yard, it makes quite a difference. Cherries or birdsong?

I also have a few blueberries to look forward to, though, and so far, I don't think that they've been spotted...
